System Prompts

System prompts allow you to define the operational behavior, tone, domain knowledge, and output formatting rules for Cortiqa models before user conversations begin.

Basics

Pass a message with "role": "system" at the start of your message array:

Best Practices

Be explicit: State the exact expected role and output format (e.g. Markdown table, JSON schema).
Negative constraints: Clearly specify what the model must not do (e.g. “Do not include markdown backticks around JSON output”).
Grounding: Provide reference policies or documents inside the system prompt to avoid hallucinations.
